Boiled Gongura (Red Sorrel Leaves) Chutney


Red sorrel leaves (Gongura ) – 1 bunch
Oinons – 2 med chopped
Green chilis – 6-8 chopped
Tomato – 1 large chopped
Salt – to taste
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Fresh coriander – 1/2 bunch

For tempering – talimpu

Oil – 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Garlic pods – 4-5 crushed
Dry chilis – 2 broken


1.Pick and wash well the gongura leaves and put into a vessel,add chopped onions,green chilis,tomatoes,salt ,coriander and turmeric powders.Add 1/2 cup of water and cover cook till well cooked and all water is gone.
2. Turn of heat and add fresh coriander leaves chopped and mash well,transfer into serving bowl.
3. Heat oil in a small pan and fry the ingredients for tempering and add to the chutney.

This is a good combination for Biryanis,Fried Rice or Pulaos.
