Mango Moong Dal

Mango Moong Dal


Moong dal – 2 cups
Raw Mango – 1 med peeled and chopped
Green chili – 2 chopped
Onion – 1 large chopped
Turmeric powder – 3 pinches
Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 2-3 pinches
Oil – 1 tsp

For Tempering

Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard – 1 tsp
Cumin – 1/2 tsp
Garlic – 3 pods crushed
Onion – 1/4 finely chopped
Curry leaves – few
Dry chilis – 2-3 broken and deeseeded


1. Dry roast the moong dal till nice aroma emanates,cool and wash add enough water and chopped mango pieces,onion,green chilis,turmeric,red chili powder,oil and 2 pinches of coriander powder and pressure cook for 5-8 mins.
2.Turn of heat and after few mins open lid and mash slightly adding salt and transfer into serving bowl.
3.Prepare Tempering or Tadka or Talimpu….by Heating oil and spluttering mustard and add garlic,onoin sliced ,Cumin ,curry leaves and dry chilis and fry well pour over dal.

This is a bit Tangy but Tasty….

Serve with rice and appadum or fryums
