Green Brinjal Daal (Vankaya Pappu)

Ingredients

Toor dal (Split pigeon pea) – 1 cup
Onion – 1 chopped
Tomato – 1 chopped
Green chili – 2 chopped
Green Brinjals – 3 chopped
Turmeric – 3 pinches
Coriander powder – 1/4 tsp
Red chili powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt – as per taste
Tamarind – 4-5 pieces soaked

For Tempering/ Tadka

Oil – 2 tsps
Mustard – 1/4 tsp
Garlic pods – 2 crushed
Curry leaves – few
Red chilis – 2 broken
Onion – few slices

Method

1.Wash and cook Dal along with chopped onion,green chili,tomato,brinjals and powder spices and a few drops of oil.Pressure cook and add salt and tamarind ,then mash well.

2.Prepare tempering with all the ingredients and pour over dal and mix.
This is a Tasty Brinjal Dal which goes well with rice .

Serve hot.
