Dal With Water Cress And Sour Cucumber


Toor dal ( Split Pigeon pea) – 1 cup
Sour cucumber (Pulla Dosakai) – 1 med peeled deseeded and washed
Onion – 1 large chopped
Green chilis 4-5 chopped
Water cress – 1 bunch only leaves,picked and washed
Tomato – 1 med chopped
Turmeric powder – 3 pinches
Coriander powder- 1 tsp
Garlic pods – 2

For Tempering

Oil – 2 tsp
Mustard 1/2 tsp
Dry chilis – 2 broken
Curry leaves few
Onion – 1/2 finely sliced
Garlic – 2 pods crushed

1.Pressure cook washed toor dal in 5 cups of water and few drops of oil.Open lid and add chopped sour cucumber,onion,tomato,watercress leaves,green chili,turmeric,coriander and garlic pods and 1/2 cup of water and cook again for 5-8 mins.Turn of heat.
2.When pressure is reduced open lid and add salt and mash lightly and prepare tempering in oil with the ingredients and pour over dal.

Serve with rice ,pickle and pappads.
